The Somerton Spartans football team recently won the Mighty Mites Division (9 and under) championship in the Northeast Suburban Athletic Conference (NESAC) with a 30–0 victory over Calvary A.A. It was Somerton’s first football championship in any division in about 30 years, according to team officials.

The coaching staff included John McSorley, Dave Comitale, Chuck Layton, Rick Leinenbach and Lou Disbot. Team members were Curran Rahn (11), David Comitale (13), Saxon Leal (12), Keilohn Chann (6), Keiano Chann (4), Mike Szwack (36), Jamie Maldonado (29), Delano Lewis (40), Richie Pomorilenko (19), Jake Disbot (80), Ethan Fleming (15), Zachary Curtin (1), Tyler Mangan (26), John McSorley (31), Justin Layton (24), Otto Leinenbach (92), Steve Blaker (22) and Gannon Blaker (23). ••
