Frankford Civic now meeting on Wednesdays
The Frankford Civic Association, which usually meets on the first Thursday of each month, will now meet on the first Wednesday.
The association’s first session of the new year will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, in the second-floor conference room of Aria Health’s Frankford campus, 4900 Frankford Ave. ••
Rally to support police to be held Saturday
The Independence Hall Foundation will spearhead a tri-state regional rally in support of local police officers throughout the Delaware Valley on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Independence Mall, Fifth and Market streets.
Local elected officials and dignitaries are expected to attend along with anyone who wishes to thank the men and women in blue. ••
Pennypack Friends ready for the new year
The Friends of Pennypack Park have released their 2015 recycling and cleanup schedules, the first recycling event planned for Saturday, Jan. 17. All recycling events are held in the Ryan Avenue parking lot of Abraham Lincoln High School from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.
Additional recycling events will be on Feb. 21, March 21, April 18, May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19. Accepted materials include clothing, towels, linens, draperies, shoes, handbags, belts, paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, scrap metal, batteries, cell phones, magazines, books, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, printer ink cartridges and toys that are in good condition. Some items are taken to a recycling plant, while others are redistributed as-is.
The cleanup days will begin on Saturday, March 28, at the Holme Avenue ballfield behind Nazareth Hospital. Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. Cleanup days will also be held on the fourth Saturday of every month through November throughout the Northeast.

Benefit planned for war hero statue
A beef-and-beer fundraiser for the “Wild Bill” Guarnere Memorial Statue will take place on Friday, Feb. 6, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road.
Bill Guarere, who died last March, was a World War II hero from South Philadelphia. The event is being organized by City Councilman David Oh and the Guarnere family.
Tickets cost $50 and include food, beer, soda, live music, raffles and auctions. The keynote address will be given by retired U.S. Army Col. Tim Williams.
