Now that the Conrail train trestle has been painted at Frankford and Solly avenues, members of the Holmesburg Civic Association are looking forward to welcoming messages being printed on both sides.
The painting was completed in November. It was a joint effort of U.S. Rep. Bob Brady and District Council 21, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. Sherwin-Williams donated the paint.
On the north side, the lettering will read, “Welcome to Holmesburg. The Home of the 1697 Pennypack Creek Bridge. America’s Oldest Roadway Bridge. Stop & Visit.”
On the south side, the words “Upper Holmesburg” will be added.
