A Northeast father has been ordered to stand trial for voluntary manslaughter for shooting his daughter’s boyfriend fatally during a confrontation in her bedroom in September.
According to testimony during a preliminary hearing on Jan. 21, both Charles Jordan, 41, and his daughter Brenda, 20, were at home in their apartment on the 2700 block of Axe Factory Road on Sept. 15, when he heard a suspicious noise from her bedroom at about 11:30 p.m.
Jordan grabbed a gun and went to the bedroom, where he saw a man crouching by his daughter’s bed. While on the telephone with a 911 operator, Jordan ordered the suspected intruder to freeze, but he moved. Jordan shot him in the head.
Paramedics took the wounded man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. He was identified as Marc Carrion, 32. Jordan’s daughter told police detectives that the victim was her boyfriend and that she had let him into the apartment, although Jordan claimed he had never met Carrion. During last week’s court hearing, a prosecutor and defense attorney reportedly said that Carrion and the woman had been dating for a week and that Carrion had sold heroin to her. While investigating the shooting scene, police allegedly found drugs and paraphernalia.
Jordan is free, having posted 10 percent of $15,000 bail, and is scheduled for an arraignment on Feb. 11. ••
