NE Philly has a lot to offer
I want to offer my sincere congratulations to the Northeast Times on 80 years in publication.
The Northeast Times reflects Northeast Philadelphia back to us. It’s the Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade and the Bridesburg Cougars opening day. It’s fireworks in Fox Chase, celebrating a Phillies win on a warm July day at Frankford and Cottman, hitting the Tacony Hoagie Trail and/or getting a slice from Montesini’s.
It’s Dietz and Watson expanding in the shadow of our industrial past that included manufacturing giants like the Budd Company, where my father worked. And it’s smaller businesses, from hairdressers to auto body shops; banks to bakeries; florists to diners; and many in between.
It’s dedicated coverage of our high school athletes and community events. It’s also what is on the horizon, from our growing craft beer scene to expanding outdoor spaces along the river to cleaner, safer streets every day.
And it’s regular people coming together to keep those neighborhoods strong, forming civic associations and town watches, performing the yeoman’s work of community service, day-in and day-out, many times without the fanfare or thanks they deserve.
I have been proud to call Northeast Philadelphia home for my entire life and thankful that I’ve been able to serve many of you in City Council for these last three years. Here’s to another 80 years of the Northeast Times showing us the best of Northeast Philadelphia and always keeping us informed.
