1934
The Northeast Times publishes its first-ever newspaper, then called the Mayfair Times, with one employee. The paper was four pages.
1940
Frances Burke, of Sheffield Street in Mayfair, is crowned Miss America.
1941
Saint Hubert High School is established.
1942
Hollywood production crews spent weeks in Tacony preparing and shooting the movie Pride of the Marines, which told the story of Al Schmid, a World War II hero from Tacony.
1942
Mayfair Diner moves to a new location at Bleigh and Frankford avenues.
1945
Northeast Philadelphia Airport is completed.
1952
The first department store groundbreaking occurs in Northeast Philadelphia. It was a branch of Lit Brothers at Castor and Cottman avenues.
1954
Holy Family University is founded.
1956
Cardinal Dougherty High School opens to freshman and sophomore students. By 1965, it was the largest Catholic high school in the world.
1958
Northeast High School moves to its current location on Cottman Avenue.
1963
Liberty Bell Park horse racing opens at Knights and Woodhaven roads.
1977
Frankford Arsenal closes. Opened in 1816, it was the center of U.S. military small-arms ammunition design and development.
1985
Wilson Goode, the first African-American mayor of Philadelphia, builds a “mini-City Hall” in the Northeast Shopping Center along Roosevelt Boulevard.
1989
Franklin Mills mall opens. At the time, it was one of the largest malls on the East Coast.
1990
Philadelphia State Hospital at Byberry closes.
1994
Sears Merchandise Center on Roosevelt Boulevard is demolished.
2005
The first red-light cameras are installed at three intersections in Northeast Philadelphia.
2008
President Barack Obama visits the Mayfair Diner.
2009
Frankford Hospital changes its name to Aria Health.
2010
North Catholic High School closes after 84 years of education.
2010
Liddonfield Homes housing project is demolished.
2013
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 opens new union headquarters.
2014
State Sen. Mike Stack is elected lieutenant governor.
2014
The Northeast Times turns 80 years old.
