A Wissinoming boy shot his 11-year-old sister in the head when he took his father’s handgun from a bedroom drawer and accidentally fired it on Saturday afternoon, Philadelphia police say.
The girl was wounded critically and underwent surgery at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where she was listed in stable condition.
The boy, 14, told police that he retrieved his dad’s .38-caliber revolver from an unlocked nightstand and was handling it when it fired. The bullet traveled about 15 feet from the front upstairs bedroom, through a hallway and off of a party wall before striking the victim, who was standing in the doorway of the rear bedroom. The girl ran downstairs and told her parents, police said. No charges have been filed, but police continue to investigate. ••
