Council candidate withdraws
After much thought and discussion with family and friends, I have decided to withdraw my Democratic candidacy for office of member of Philadelphia City Council at-large to continue to prioritize on my work as an attorney in Philadelphia, in my local community through the Greater Bustleton Civic League, and with United We C.A.N., a national organization focused on educating families impacted by addiction and co-occurring illness.
I am extremely thankful for the hard work and dedication for those who have devoted their time and support throughout this process. This election marks an important time in Philadelphia, that we are blessed with an abundance of qualified candidates that will ensure Philadelphia continues to grow and develop. As a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, I look forward to the May 19 election, and the future of our great city.

Councilman supports Deeley
I am writing to offer my support to Lisa Deeley in her run for Philadelphia city commissioner. While Lisa served ably as a member of my senior staff, I have been lucky to call Lisa a friend and adviser long before she worked for me.
Lisa’s commitment to our city and public service runs deep — whether it was working for then-state Rep. Alan Butkovitz, with Alan in the Controller’s office, or on my staff. Lisa has been a smart, dedicated and creative community builder. She prides herself on helping community groups and citizens navigate the often-complex maze of government bureaucracy to find real solutions. That alone makes her a fantastic choice to join the commissioners’ office.
Protecting a citizen’s right to vote is of the upmost importance, and Lisa will guarantee this right remains intact. She’ll work hard to make sure residents have all the tools they need to be informed, active voters by giving communities unprecedented access to their commissioner and providing innovative solutions to streamline the voting process.
I know Lisa will work day and night for the residents of this city. I can say this for certain because she has for both myself and the citizens of the 6th District. Time and again, she has put her own ambitions aside to promote harmony and cooperation within the Democratic Party. I hope voters citywide agree with me that it’s time to send Lisa to the commissioners’ office and wholeheartedly endorse her candidacy for the office.

Wolf and Nutter, do not raise our taxes again
Too many taxes are already a huge burden on the Pennsylvania working people.
Please tell us why you people think that the working people are a never-ending supply of money for you to put more taxes on us all the time?
Why don’t you, Gov. Wolf and Mayor Nutter, start looking at controlling all expenses like the working people have to do in order to pay all these taxes you burden us with? We have to cut back or do without to pay you both. And this does not include any federal taxes. The people of Pennsylvania are sick and tired of you both taxing every single thing that you can find to put additional taxes on.
We are not only taxed out, but are drowning in taxes, but you both keep wanting more and more.
Enough is enough.
Income for the working people never increases enough to cover all these tax increases you all keep putting on us. The working people have to pay these taxes, yet we have no idea where all the tax money goes. We get no vote on taxes, you just put them on us. I think you both should put out an honest statement to the working people that actually shows us where every penny of the tax money is spent.
One thing I know for sure where a lot of money could be saved is for both of you to stop allowing illegals on our benefits and giving them our money. They should not be given anything. After all, they are in our country illegally.
Another area to save money is to make welfare recipients who are able bodied do some kind of work instead of doing nothing and getting paid for it.
To help Pennsylvanians, bring in more companies here to create more jobs, bring manufacturing back to the U.S. and Pennsylvania, which could really help to lower our taxes.
Also, put on hold any projects that are not really important for now.
