What started out as a flophouse turned into a tattoo dungeon for a troubled 53-year-old Northeast man, who finally got to see the tables turned on three of his former captors on April 9, as a judge sent them all to prison.
Defendant Corry “Corey” Campbell, 21, was sentenced to eight to 20 years in the state pen, while conspirator Carl Halin, 18, earned seven to 20 years upstate and Sandra Ng, 19, got 23 months in the county lockup.
All three previously admitted to aggravated assault, false imprisonment and conspiracy charges for placing the victim in restraints, beating him and applying unflattering tattoos to his arms inside their basement apartment on the 3100 block of Brighton St. The ordeal lasted about 42 hours before he escaped and flagged down a police officer.
The amateur ink designs included racist symbols and slogans and images of male genetalia.
The victim had originally made contact with the defendants through their mutual interest in drugs, according to court testimony, so Campbell invited him to live in the apartment. ••
