Federal agents have arrested a man who allegedly robbed two area banks and may have been involved in two other hold-ups earlier this month.
A spokesperson for the Philadelphia FBI office identified the defendant as Richard Cooper, 37. Cooper’s last know address was in the Holmesburg area. Authorities captured him on Tuesday and charged him with robbing the TD Bank at 2267 E. Butler St. in Port Richmond on April 15, as well as the TD Bank at 6635 Frankford Ave. in Mayfair last Friday, according to FBI Public Affairs Specialist Carrie Adamowski.
Officially, two other robberies remain unsolved, but were committed by a man fitting Cooper’s description. Those crimes occurred on April 11 at the same TD Bank at 6635 Frankford Ave., as well as the Citizens Bank at 7327 Frankford Ave. in Mayfair.
In the first case, the robber used a demand note and a verbal demand to obtain an undisclosed amount of cash from a teller. He fled north on Frankford Avenue. In the April 13 case, the robber issued a verbal demand, obtained cash and fled south through a rear alley. ••
