Holmesburg Library, at 7810 Frankford Ave. (at Hartel Avenue), will be offering numerous free programs through the spring and summer, thanks to the Friends of Holmesburg Library.
Preschool Story Time will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the following Tuesdays: June 9, June 23, July 7, July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18.
A puppet show based on Aesop’s Fables is scheduled for Monday, May 4, at 6 p.m.
Photography workshops, designed for digital camera and smartphone users, are set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, May 4, May 11 and May 18.
Wacky Wonders of Science, for anyone 3 or older, will be presented on Monday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m.
Teen Tuesdays will kick off on June 23 at 2 p.m. with a showing of the 2010 version of the movie Alice in Wonderland. Refreshments will be provided. Future Teen Tuesdays events are planned for June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28 and Aug. 4.
School-age children are invited to make crafts at 3 p.m. every Thursday in July.
A live snake program will be held on Monday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m.
People are welcome to mingle in the library garden on Monday, Aug. 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be stories, a puppet show, face-painting, art and refreshments.

• Rich Frizell stepped down as civic association president as he deals with a health issue.
Joe Kruzczuk, the former vice president, is the new president. He appointed Renee Cohen as vice president. Kruzczuk’s father, Matthew, was president of the civic association about 55 years ago. Chris Lorenzo has joined the executive board.
• Welsh Bar and Grill is expected to open in early to mid-May at the former Marsico property at 3515 Welsh Road. A banquet hall will also open with a separate entrance. The property has been shuttered since August 2010, when Guido’s Ristorante Italiano, the Grotto Lounge and a banquet hall closed. The demolition of two buildings will allow for more parking.
• The Pennypack Bridge wall was heavily damaged recently when a car hit it. A city crew cleared debris and erected a safety fence, but a contractor will have to be hired to complete the repair work.
• The Holmesburg Civic Association will meet again on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:15 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center, at Rhawn and Ditman streets. Political candidates, including mayoral hopeful Jim Kenney, will be in attendance. City Councilman David Oh attended last week’s meeting. ••
