About 200 Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families gave the Frankford Boys and Girls Club a major facelift on Saturday as they made physical improvements inside and outside the club as part of Comcast Cares Day, a corporate event coinciding with the annual National Volunteer Month.

Comcast went all-in at the Frankford site by remodeling the club’s computer room into a My.Future digital literacy lab, which features desktop, laptop and tablet computers along with other technology valued at $25,000. The My.Future initiative was created to teach kids about the digital world and get them passionate about the possibilities that technology offers.

Comcast also issued an additional $25,000 grant to the club to support ongoing renovations. DIY Network personality Josh Temple of House Crashers joined the Comcast folks for the project.

Not to be outdone, dozens of additional Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families performed another project at Self Help Inc. in Somerton. Much like the Frankford contingent, the Self Help volunteers painted and made other interior improvements to the addiction rehabilitation facility while also installing new landscape elements around the property.

The nationwide Comcast Cares Day involved more than 90,000 volunteers and 750 project sites. Since the annual event began in 2001, more than 600,000 volunteers have contributed about 3.7 million hours. ••
