A man who allegedly brought a knife to a gunfight outside a Northeast supermarket and ended up with a hole in the groin has been ordered to stand trial for aggravated assault.
Dondi DeCosta, 36, allegedly brandished a blade and charged another man and his girlfriend in the parking lot of Pathmark, at 8700 Frankford Ave., last Oct. 12. The male victim, 38, warned DeCosta to back off, authorities said at the time, but DeCosta kept coming. So the other man pulled his legally carried handgun and shot DeCosta in the groin, neutralizing the threat.
Police did not charge the other man with a crime. On April 23, Municipal Court Judge Nazario Jimenez Jr. ordered DeCosta to stand trial for aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime, making terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.
DeCosta is free on $75,000 bail. A trial date has not been set. ••
