Democrats have a big choice

Hopefully, the Democrats vote for a candidate with the ability to perform well as our next mayor. It shouldn’t be a popularity contest based on superficial issues.

Some of the candidates do not have any city government experience with the budgeting of billions of dollars and oversight for the tens of thousands of city employees. One candidate couldn’t even oversee a small charter school as its chairman of the board. How can he run a city this size?

The last four mayors have been either councilmen or some type of city managers. The future of our city is at the crossroads again.

Comcast needs to do better

I was one of 30 people to testify at the Comcast Franchise renewal agreement at MaST Charter School on April 28.

Pursuant to Philly Chamber President Rob Wonderling’s comments, “Community Pillar,” Comcast has offered large salaries to Philly residents.

Founder, Ralph Roberts is a genius. He created this company, I believe in the 1950s.

Unlike other companies who have left Philly for greener pastures, Comcast has stayed. However, it is time that CEO Brian Roberts kicks some butt. It is not appropriate that customers are treated improperly and sometimes with rude indignation.

Philadelphians are the hometown team. Yet, customers are often treated like the Cowboys.

The new payment center on Cottman Avenue is atrocious. In a goodwill gesture, Comcast should commit to putting Sunday Phillies games on free broadcast TV for the indigent and senior population. NBC 10 would be perfect.

Save Far Northeast skate park

Please help Black Diamond Skating Park in Philadelphia Mills stay open.

The kids finally have a place to go and skate, bike, scooter, and now it may be closing. It needs $13,000 by the end of May.

Please help them stay open for the kids’ sake, for they are not allowed to skate or scooter at any of the schools’ playgrounds in the area, and this is a safe and secure area for them to be. Please help the kids keep their skating area in Philadelphia Mills.

On behalf of all the kids and parents, thanks for any help you can give for the kids.

The donation area is gofundme.com/xpark

The code number is 2152540297.

A SALUTE TO MOMS

To my mother…

The small clumsy cottage

Washed eyes with smoke,

Along the frozen village

Cock’s crowing all awoke.

There’s no pleasure stronger,

Than to lie in the morning

On the heating Russian stove

With a sheepskin coat over.

Mother throws burning logs

With a poker in the stove,

Then she puts growing rolls

With a wooden great shovel.

A small mug of new milk

Mother brings me with bread,

I soar under sky of silk

With the broken off end.

I cannot all that forget

And will always remember,

How mom made me glad

In the frozen December.

Dreams for moms

Look into her eyes and you will see the woman that she longs to be. If you can see the woman that I can see, then you’ll understand there’s so much more than what you see.

A woman who’s tired, a woman who’s worn and a woman who has the strength to carry on.

Long days, short nights, big dreams of a better life in a world with so much pain, only to gather her thoughts to start all over again.

Long days, short nights, big dreams of a better life.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the hard-working mothers in Philly.
