Tacony community day slated for Saturday
The Friends of Tacony Library will hold its annual flea market and community day on Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is at 6742 Torresdale Ave. The day will include family crafts, live animals, a magic show, musical storytime, a book sale, a DJ, a balloon artist, face-painting and a showing of the movie Rio at 2 p.m. in the meeting room. Disney show is at John Hancock School
John Hancock Demonstration School, 3700 Morrell Ave., will host three performances of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Show times are Thursday, June 4, at 7 p.m.; Friday, June 5, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, June 6, at 2 p.m.

O’Neill’s office will host shredding event
On Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to noon, City Councilman Brian O’Neill will host a free shredding event in the parking lot of his office at 432 Rhawn St., behind American Heritage Federal Credit Union, in Fox Chase. The event is being sponsored by American Heritage Federal Credit Union.

Science program at Holmesburg Library
Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave. (at Hartel Avenue), will kick off its summer reading program on Monday, June 15, with Wacky Wonders of Science.
The interactive event, funded by Friends of Holmesburg Library, will begin at 6:30 p.m. It is geared to kids age 3 and up.
Guests will learn about what polymers are, witness the making of slime, enjoy a hair-raising experience with static electricity and see demonstrations with dry ice. The free show is presented by Mad Science of West NJ.
Kids can also sign up for the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Summer Reading Program, which includes prizes awarded throughout the summer for checking out and reading books.

Tent sale this weekend at shopping center
Gerhard’s and the Grant at One Shopping Center, at Grant Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, will host a tent sale on Saturday and Sunday.
Visitors will be treated to barbecue hot dogs, soda and music. At Gerhard’s, there will be savings on brand-name appliances and electronics. Sale items include closeouts, floor models, overstock and out of box. Purchases carry a full-manufacturer warranty. Interest-free financing is available.

AOH family day on June 14
Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 17 will hold a Family Fun Day on Sunday, June 14, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Danubia, 1277 Southampton Road in Somerton.
The day will include beer, soda, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, horseshoes, wiffle ball, soccer and live music from Ballina.
