About five years ago, the Zionist Organization of America’s Greater Philadelphia District launched a “Buy Israel” campaign as a proactive, positive project to help the Israeli economy and counter the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.

The McMenamin Family ShopRite, known as ShopRite on the Boulevard, sells Israeli-made items among its “Kosher on the Boulevard” department.

The store carries a variety of items ranging from entrees to snacks to cleaning products from Israel. It was a program begun by Rich McMenamin, the family patriarch who now chairs the business, and carried on by his children: Sean, the president of the firm, and Bria, vice president of administration.

At a recent ceremony at the McMenamin’s Haldeman Avenue supermarket, Philadelphia ZOA presented a certificate of appreciation to the McMenamin family as the №1 purveyor of goods from Israel within the city of Philadelphia.

Taking part in the presentation were Howard Katzoff, Philadelphia ZOA board member; Philadelphia ZOA executive director Steve Feldman; Sean McMenamin; Bria McMenamin; Philadelphia ZOA board chairman Gene Shusman; and Moshe Suissa, a ShopRite supervisor.
