Bethesda Church to host carnival

Bethesda Church, 808 Red Lion Road, will host a carnival-themed event on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be food, crafts, games and prizes for kindergarten through sixth-grade children and their parents/grandparents. The event is open to the community.

Donate hair for cancer patients

Creations Unisex Salon, 6648 Frankford Ave., will be accepting donations of 8 inches or more of hair that will be donated and made into wigs for cancer patients.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 27, from noon to 4 p.m.

The afternoon will include a DJ, face-painting, giveaways and raffles.

Church holding Bible school

Lehigh Baptist Church, at 934 Alburger Ave., will host a Vacation Bible School from June 22–26.

The hours are 9 a.m. to noon.

At Camp Kilimanjaro 2015, kids will learn true wisdom comes from God. They will study the book of Proverbs to learn to listen and trust God and how to lead a wise life.

Classes are for children age 5 to completing sixth grade. Registration is free. Daily offerings will be taken for a missionary project. Call 215–673–9552. ••

Enjoy free movies in the park

The Delaware River City Corporation will be hosting three free movie nights at Pennypack on the Delaware, at State Road and Rhawn Street. Show time is 8:30 p.m.

Health and wellness fair is Saturday

Nazareth Hospital and Wesley Enhanced Living Pennypack Park have partnered to present a free health and wellness fair for senior citizens.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at WEL Pennypack, 8401 Roosevelt Blvd. Guests will learn about skin cancer, nutrition and exercise. There will be free blood pressure screenings and grip and pinch strength screenings.

Science program at Holmesburg Library

Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave. (at Hartel Avenue), will kick off its summer reading program on Monday, June 15, with Wacky Wonders of Science.

The interactive event, funded by Friends of Holmesburg Library, will begin at 6:30 p.m. It is geared to kids age 3 and up.

Guests will learn about what polymers are, witness the making of slime, enjoy a hair-raising experience with static electricity and see demonstrations with dry ice.

The free show is presented by Mad Science of West NJ.

Kids can also sign up for the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Summer Reading Program, which includes prizes awarded throughout the summer for checking out and reading books.

Farm Stand now open at Jeanes

The Farm Stand on the Jeanes Hospital campus is open every Thursday through November from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located between Jeanes Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center, on the 7600 Central Ave. campus.

Hayes Playground meeting June 16

City Councilman Brian O’Neill invites neighbors and users of Hayes Playground play equipment to review new plans for a renovation and enlargement of the play area at a meeting on Tuesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. at the playground, 9800 Roosevelt Blvd.

There will be architectural drawings, and the public will be able to provide input on the final plans for the project.

Corvette show is June 20

The Corvette Club of Delaware Valley and Bryner Chevrolet will hold the 45th annual Cavalcade of Corvettes on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Upper Moreland Intermediate School, 3990 Orangemans Road in Hatboro.

Houseman has summer camp

Houseman Recreation Center, 5091 Summerdale Ave., is holding signups for its summer day camp, which will run from July 7 to Aug. 14.

The camp is for kids 5–12. It will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Activities will include swimming, arts and crafts, sports, trips and games. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

The registration fee is $25. The cost is $600 for all six weeks. There is an additional weekly charge of $30 for extended care. Call 215–685–1240. ••

Looking for volleyball players

Vogt Recreation Center, 6700 Cottage St. in Tacony, will host travel volleyball games for girls age 10–14 on Thursdays from mid-June to mid-August. Games will be played from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. Teams consist of at least eight players. Call 215–685–8753. ••

Stylistics in concert on June 27

Russell Thompkins Jr. and the New Stylistics will be in concert on Saturday, June 27, at the Radisson hotel, 2400 Old Lincoln Highway in Trevose.

Dinner will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the show at 8. Disc jockey Lou Costello will entertain. The cost is $55.

Rock concert at Bull Shooters

The Dreaming, featuring songs and members of Stabbing Westward, will be in concert on Wednesday, June 17, at 8 p.m. at Bull Shooters Saloon, 14000 Bustleton Ave. in Somerton.

Others on stage will be Die So Fluid and Salems Outlaw.

The concert is for anyone 18 or older.
