Slow down on Bustleton Ave.
I live on the corner of Hendrix Street and very busy Bustleton Avenue.
In light of the recent train derailment and fiery car crashes on Roosevelt Boulevard, high speeds have been an issue that needs to be addressed for public safety.
I, too, have been a victim of three high-speed occurrences, each time a speeding vehicle barreling into my property. Cars are traveling at high speeds (above the posted 35 mph speed limit), on a narrower street than Roosevelt Boulevard. And besides my corner house being demolished for no reason at all, one day an innocent pedestrian will be killed or an unsuspecting homeowner.
Why aren’t there stricter enforcements and why are people turning a deaf ear or a blind eye to disobeying speed limits? This is a very serious issue not only for myself, who lives on a street where a “raceway” attitude overrules public safety, but for all those who live and walk along Bustleton Avenue.

Kenney will be a far left mayor
They call themselves progressives.
I’m referring to primary victor Jim Kenney and his supporters. But in reality, they are a backward looking group, who whether aware of it or not, take their political inspiration from a failed ideology from the 19th century (Marxism). This will never be the topsoil upon which nations are built, nor individual character. It is all deterioration and degeneration, plain and simple.
Nonetheless, with Kenney’s very likely victory come November, Philadelphia will join such cities as New York, Baltimore, and Detroit: each with a far left mayor unable to grasp the bigger picture. What will follow here in Philly is the same train that befell those cities: inefficient, bloated, unworkable government, economic stagnation, and further cultural dysfunction, all palmed off by a compliant media as “progress” and “democracy.” Oh, well.
But this ideological cloud does have a silver lining. As the popularity of the left has faded in recent decades, our home-grown lefties appear to have lowered their geographical sights. They seem content to build a few cities in place of their earlier vision, a worldwide socialist paradise. May these little urban experiments signal the end of these misguided attempts to create heaven on Earth.

The star-spangled flag
The biggest star-spangled flag
Going up proud over my country,
The outstretched national flag
Is raising above, as the guarantee.

Have created you long ago,
You are widespread across lots
And feeling free yourself to grow.
We had thirteen in the past,
Today there are fifty stars,
A lot of people aspire to us
And wish to give friendly arms.
Under your wing in all the states,
In under God created country
In freedom, happiness and justice
All people live, as friends, politely.

Big risks in a free society
The Fourth of July is the day we celebrate our independence. But have we lost a sense of freedom?
To think that a person can purchase assault weapons in any gun store.
To think that a person can go online and learn how to build a bomb.
To think a person can purchase a drone and find out where we live.
To think a person can hatch our accounts and obtain personal information.
With freedom there is a risk, but this is America, the land of the free.
