The 8th Police District recognized Officer Joseph Kolodi as Officer of the Month and handed out a civilian award during a recent meeting of the district’s community advisory board.
Lt. Lawrence Clifford and Peggy Recupido, aide to City Councilman Brian O’Neill, were among those to honor Kolodi during the 8th Police District Advisory Council meeting on July 2. Meanwhile, Community Relations Officer Natalie Crone presented a plaque of special recognition to Lyn Truszkowski, community relations liaison for Friends Hospital.
Kolodi was nominated for the monthly award for his role in the arrest of two burglary suspects in Upper Holmesburg. The incident occurred on May 26 on the 8500 block of Torresdale Ave. At about 11:15 p.m., Kolodi went there in response to a report of a “person breaking in.” Kolodi and other officers saw two suspicious males at the scene and attempted to question them.
One of the suspects allegedly engaged the officers in a physical confrontation while the second suspect allegedly approached the officers from behind and struck them before fleeing. Kolodi gave chase and ran down the second suspect, who was charged with hindering the apprehension of the first suspect, conspiracy and resisting arrest. Other officers also arrested the first suspect, who was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
Recupido presented Kolodi with a City Council citation. Truszkowski also received a citation and the plaque in honor of her “continuous support to the 8th district and the Philadelphia Police Department.” ••
