100 years young: Edith Murphy of Bustleton celebrated her 100th birthday on June 28.
Seventy relatives and friends of Bustleton resident Edith Murphy helped her celebrate her 100th birthday on June 28 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
Born on June 28, 1915, Murphy graduated from the all-girls Kensington High School in 1934, married her late husband James Murphy in 1939 and mothered two daughters. She now has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Murphys moved from the Kensington area to Bustleton in 1956 and joined Bethesda, where Edith was a participant in many church activities. She credits avid swimming for her excellent health.
Party-goers presented Murphy with a birthday cake, while she received several citations, including one from City Council sponsored by Councilman Brian O’Neill. ••
