John Birch Society meeting in Holmesburg
The John Birch Society will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center, at Rhawn and Ditman streets.
Two videos, An Overview of America and Dollars & Sense, will be shown. They are narrated by John McManus, president of the John Birch Society.

Lottery ticket convention at Sheraton
The Global Lottery Collector’s Society will host its annual lottery ticket convention, “Lotovention,” on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Four Points-Sheraton Hotel, 9461 Roosevelt Blvd.
The annual event gives members the opportunity to meet face-to-face after spending numerous hours trading tickets through the mail. Attendees will have access to thousands of different scratch-off tickets from all over the country, all in one room. The event is free and open to the public, and club members hope the event will attract new members.
ldquo;Every year, we find people who collect tickets but never knew there is an organization who meet and trade with others that share the same hobby,” said event chairman Steven Gilbert. “We invite anyone interested in learning more about collecting lottery tickets to come to the event or visit our website.”

National Night Out scheduled for Aug. 4
Residents of the 8th and 15th police districts will celebrate National Night Out with a parade and fair on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The parade will begin at 7 p.m. at Frankford Avenue and Welsh Road. It will end at Abraham Lincoln High School. The grand marshals will be the children of fallen police officer Robert Wilson.
At Lincoln, there will be a crime and informational fair in the school parking lot, near Rowland and Ryan avenues.
The event is designed to raise crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit unity, and foster community/police partnerships.
The night will include entertainment, giveaways and activities. Organizers are seeking stepper groups, bands, entertainers and exhibitors.

Camp raising money for pets
Cherokee Day Camp will take place on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 1 to 5 p.m. at 1 Declaration Drive in Bensalem.
Activities will include swimming, zip lines, a rock climbing wall, miniature golf, paddle boats, sand volleyball, horseshoes and arts and crafts.
Advance tickets are $15, or $12 for kids under age 10. Tickets cost $18 at the door.
Proceeds benefit Philadoptables, which aids shelter animals.

Glen Foerd concert on Thursday night
The Blackbird Society Orchestra will perform on Thursday, July 16, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Glen Foerd on the Delaware, 5001 Grant Ave. The Blackbird Society Orchestra is an 11-piece, 1920s jazz orchestra.
The Monday Blues Swing Orchestra, a big band, will perform on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Admission is pay what you wish. Proceeds from the concerts will benefit the Glen Foerd estate and the concert artists. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and pack a picnic dinner. ••
