Surveillance photo

Two would-be burglars thought they had the security system sussed when they broke into a Frankford cell phone store on June 17, but there were two surprises waiting for them inside Simple Mobile Solutions at 5216 Torresdale Ave.

Firstly, they tripped an alarm and had to cut short their thievery. They fled empty handed. Also, police recovered surveillance video, footage which authorities released to the public on July 22. The crime began at about 4:28 a.m. when the crooks broke open a security grate and window. They immediately left the scene and waited about 20 minutes to see if police showed up, but no one did. So the burglars returned. Within a few seconds, they triggered an alarm, prompting both to flee.
