Local student earns internship
Isaac Takyi-Buachie, a senior at Northeast High School, was chosen by Bank of America for its 2015 Student Leaders Program.
The program, which works to connect promising students with the education and training needed to succeed in today’s workforce, offers eight-week paid internships at local nonprofits.
Takyi-Buachie is interning this summer with the Philadelphia Youth Network.
In his spare time, he is actively involved with the Church of Pentecost Bensalem Youth Group. ••
Teen Tuesdays at Holmesburg Library
Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave., will be offering a Teen Tuesdays program on Aug. 4, thanks to the Friends of Holmesburg Library.
The program, for kids 12 or older, will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Kids will write a poem, similar in style to Alice in Wonderland. Refreshments will be provided.

Local girl attends summit
Gianna Griffin represented St. Hubert High School and the state of Pennsylvania at the recent Global Youth Summit on the Future of Medicine at Brandeis University in Massachusetts.
“The next generation of health care providers will practice in an environment hard to imagine just a few years ago. Leading-edge science is rapidly changing the daily practice of health care,” said Dr. Steven Goldstein, chairman of the Global Youth Summit and senior vice president at Brandeis. “We are in the midst of the most significant and fundamental change in health care delivery in our lifetime and young people who start now will be the future leaders in the field of medicine.”
Aligned with Brandeis’ elite admissions standards, only students with exceptional academic records and test scores as well as documented interest in a medical or health career were invited to apply. Griffin was one of only 240 delegates selected for the program.
According to Andrew Flagel, senior vice president for students and enrollment at Brandeis, the delegation came from across the country and around the world.
Delegates to the Summit took part in experiential learning, attended guest lectures and had networking opportunities with leaders and innovators in the global medical community.
Delegates heard from Brandeis faculty members, including fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and medical researchers and innovators. ••

Classes for 3-year-olds are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $87 a month.
Classes for 4-year-olds are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $110 a month.

St. Chris holds fundraiser
St. Christopher Elementary School first-graders held a fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand on June 3.
The children sold Alex’s Lemonade Stand bracelets and glasses of lemonade, and raised $1,785, which was $500 more than they raised last year.
The money will go to support the research, treatment and cure of childhood cancer.
This is the sixth year in a row that St. Christopher School sponsored the service project. ••
