80 years of Social Security: The Social Security Administration last week celebrated the 80th anniversary of Social Security with events across the country, including one at the office at 2373 Welsh Road. The Social Security Act was signed on Aug. 14, 1935. Employees purchased a cake for the party with their own money, with no costs to taxpayers. State Rep.-elect Ed Neilson was among the guests at the local celebration (center).
