Residential burglaries are on the upswing in the 15th Police District, which includes the neighborhoods of Holmesburg, Mayfair, Tacony, Wissinoming, Frankford and Bridesburg.
In a memo addressed to local homeowners and distributed on social media last week, the district’s commanding officer, Capt. John McCloskey, called upon local folks to reduce their own risk of becoming victims.
“As always, and this may sound repetitive to most of you, you must always make sure you secure your home when you leave it and while you are in it,” McCloskey wrote. “Unlocked doors and windows are the most common entry points to residential burglaries. We would like you to be aware of your surroundings when entering and exiting your home. If you see someone or something suspicious, we are asking that you call 911 and report it.”
McCloskey further reminded residents to take note of a suspect’s appearance, including age, race and clothing, and to provide that information to the 911 dispatcher. Folks who have information about possible burglary culprits may give a tip to police anonymously by calling 215–686–3150 or 3151. Those numbers apply only to the 15th district.
