Italian festival is at Our Lady of Consolation
Our Lady of Consolation Church, at 7056 Tulip St. in Tacony, will hold its annual Feast of the Saints/Italian Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13.
The day will start with a multicultural Mass at 11 a.m.
The festival will run from 12:30 to 7 p.m., It will include Moonbounces, water slides, children’s rides and games, dancing, homemade Italian food, Italian novelties, trip raffles and live music by Nothing 2 Prove and Civic Minded Fools.

Block party to be held at local church
Grace Community Bible Church, at Oxford Avenue and Knorr Street, will hold a block party on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be food, prizes, games, face-painting and Bible stories. All activities are free. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. ••
Second-hand shop reopens Sept. 9
Ann’s Attic, Holmesburg United Methodist Church’s second-hand shop, will reopen from the summer break Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m.
The shop features household items, knick-knacks, jewelry, clothes, hand bags, tapes, CDs, toys and more.
No item is over $5.
Ann’s Attic is located beneath the sanctuary of the church, 8118 Frankford Ave., between Welsh Road and Stanwood Street.
The shop is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Proceeds from the shop support programs and services of the church, including a weekly food cupboard and King’s Kitchen, the church’s daily meal program. ••
Free Shoe Saturdays at Famous Footwear
Famous Footwear opened a new store in the Northeast Town Center at 4640 Roosevelt Blvd.
The store will host Free Shoe Saturdays with hourly shoe drawings from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 12.

Beef and beer scheduled at St. Martin’s
St. Martin of Tours, 5450 Roosevelt Blvd., will hold a beef and beer on Friday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m.
Tickets cost $30 and include beef, beer, salads, soft drinks, desserts and a disc jockey. It’s also a BYOB event.
All tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the rectory or at the religious goods store after weekend Masses.

Oktoberfest at Cannstatter’s this weekend
Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road, will hold its 143rd annual Oktoberfest from Sept. 5–7.
There will be German food, beer, wine, dancers and live bands, children’s rides and vendors.
Tickets are available for one, two or all three days at the gate. Prices are $6 for one day, $9 for a two-day pass and $11 for all three days.

Playground renovations meeting scheduled
City Councilman Bobby Henon will host a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. at Torresdale Playground, 9550 Frankford Ave., to update the community on renovations to the facility.
The public is invited to listen to design teams and representatives of the Department of Public Property and view architectural drawings.

Police inspector to host public meeting
Residents and local business people are invited to a public Town Hall meeting hosted by Inspector Benjamin Naish, commander of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Northeast Division, on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Norcom Community Center, 10980 Norcom Road.
Speakers will include the inspector, along with the commanding officers of the 2nd, 7th, 8th and 15th Police Districts, and the community relations officers from those districts.
This is an opportunity for the community to meet the inspector, commanding officers and CROs of the Northeast Division to help strengthen the relationship between the community and the police. ••
Two dates left in concert series
There are just two more dates remaining in the Tacony Civic Association Summer Concert Series, featuring the So Easy Blues Band and Savy Guthrie on Sept. 3, and The Civic Minded Fools and Giana Lynn on Sept. 10. Both shows start at 7 p.m. at Disston Recreation Center, Disston and Glenloch streets.
Admission is free. Food vendors including Kraze Shark Kart and Tacony Gear will be on hand. The rec center can provide metal folding chairs and indoor restrooms. Visitors may bring their own chairs. ••
