Pedestrian dies in Boulevard crash

A sport-utility vehicle struck and killed a Tacony man who was running across Roosevelt Boulevard near Welsh Road on Friday night, police say.

The accident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. in the northbound inner lanes. The victim was trying to cross the 12-lane thoroughfare mid-block where there are no signals or crosswalks, police said. The striking vehicle was a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox.

The motorist, a 41-year-old woman, remained at the scene until police arrived. She has not been charged criminally.

A published report identified the victim as John Francis, 24, of the 4400 block of Longshore Ave. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. ••
