Man beaten unconscious outside NE bar

Surveillance photo

Apparently, a young woman had a point to make with an older man at Benny the Bum’s on Oct. 3.

In fact, the woman seemed to instruct another, younger man to pummel the unsuspecting victim on the sidewalk in front of the business that evening. Police are trying to identify the attackers with the help of surveillance video.

The beating occurred at about 7:30 p.m. outside the bar and restaurant, which is inside The Shops at Red Lion strip mall at 9991 Bustleton Ave. In the surveillance video, a woman and man can be seen walking briskly toward the victim, who was standing alone as two other patrons exited the business nearby.

The woman appeared to point at the victim, motioning her companion toward him. The younger man then made a beeline for the victim, greeting him with a left hook to the jaw. With the victim rolling around on the ground, the thug jumped on top of him, punched him numerous times in the head and stomped him on the head. As the woman ran away, the man kicked the victim once more in the face and slammed his head on the pavement, apparently knocking him unconscious.

The suspects were last seen fleeing northbound on Bustleton Avenue. The victim was taken to Aria Health’s Torresdale campus, treated and released.

Police described the male attacker as white, 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 pounds, muscular with a dark T-shirt (long sleeves) with a graphic design on the front. The woman was described as white, 5 feet 5 inches tall, thin, with dark hair and dark clothes. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
