A boyfriend shot his live-in girlfriend then killed himself with a second gun as the couple’s two children witnessed the violence inside a Mayfair home on Nov. 11.
The gunfire erupted inside a rowhouse on the 6200 block of Mershon St. at about 6:50 a.m. where a 9-year-old girl and her 2-year-old brother were also present. Police said that the 26-year-old man’s suspicions of his 28-year-old girlfriend’s infidelity prompted the attack.
First, the man used one gun to shoot the woman in the neck in a second-floor hallway, said Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum of Northeast Detectives. Moments later, he went to the middle bedroom, picked up a second gun and shot himself fatally in the head.
The daughter called 911 for help, stating that she heard the adults arguing and fighting. Responding police found both victims at the scene and two handguns, a revolver and a semi-automatic.
Police took the boyfriend to Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m. Paramedics took the girlfriend to the same hospital in stable condition. Authorities did not disclose their identities.
The children were uninjured and reportedly placed into the custody of relatives. ••
