Resident shoots two would-be robbers
A trio of teenagers may have been in search of valuables when they allegedly held up a Burholme man outside his home on Monday night. Instead, two of the suspects got un-precious metal for their troubles.
The 34-year-old victim had a gun and used it to pump lead into two of the would-be bandits, according to Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum of Northeast Detectives.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. on the 900 block of Shelmire Ave. Authorities have not disclosed the name of the victim, who told investigators that three masked males tried to rob him on his porch. One of the crooks was armed, so the victim pulled out his own gun and began firing. After wounding two of the suspects, the victim ran inside and called 911.
One 18-year-old suffered wounds of the chest and right arm, while a 15-year-old was wounded in the hand. Both were taken by private vehicles to Jeanes Hospital. The third alleged assailant, 17, was not injured, but he showed up at the same hospital anyway.
After the victim identified all three suspects, police arrested them. Their identities have not been disclosed because police continue to investigate them for other crimes in the area. They have been charged with robbery, conspiracy and related offenses. ••
