Night at Races at St. Anselm

Ancient of Hibernians Father Aloysius P. McGonical Division 17 will hold a Night at the Races on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at St. Anselm Church, 12670 Dunks Ferry Road.

Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door, and include food, beer and wine. There will be roulette, a money wheel, poker table, dice table, bottle ring toss and dancing.

Holiday concert at St. Albert’s

The Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale will present a holiday concert on Sunday, Nov. 29, at St. Albert the Great school hall, 214 Welsh Road in Huntingdon Valley.

Doors open at 2:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $10 for the first child and are free for additional siblings.

Glen Foerd in holiday spirit

Glen Foerd on the Delaware, 5001 Grant Ave., will offer three holiday events this season.

On Saturday, Nov. 28, from 2–3 p.m., there will be a concert of holiday favorites performed by The Victorian Carolers. This four-part harmony group sings popular holiday standards and classic Christmas songs. Guests will get a glimpse at the mansion’s stained glass-theme decorations, including the mansion’s 13-foot indoor Christmas tree.

Glen Foerd will partner with Settlement Music School’s Kardon Northeast Branch and Nazareth Academy Grade School to bring musical and ballet performances as part of Christmas at the Mansion on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 1 to 6 p.m. There will be children’s crafts, a puppet theater performance, an appearance by Santa Claus, a sing-along and a tree-lighting ceremony.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, from 7 to 10 p.m., the mansion will host “The Holiday Affair: A Roaring 20s Melodrama.” Guests are invited to wear their nicest 1920s dress and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine. Dougherty class of ’85 reunion

The Cardinal Dougherty High School class of 1985 will celebrate its 30-year reunion on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Best Western Hotel, 3499 Street Road in Bensalem.

Frankford to hold 40th reunion

The Frankford High School class of 1975 will celebrate its 40th reunion on Friday, Nov. 27, from 8 p.m. to midnight at P&P Caterers, 12273 Townsend Road.

The night will include a buffet dinner, sweet table, cash bar, DJ, photo booth, door prizes and giveaways. Tickets are $50. Alumni can purchase tickets and get more information at frankfordhigh40.wix.com/frankfordhigh40 ••

Donate luggage to foster kids

The public is invited to take part in A Bag to Pack, an initiative to help youths in foster care. The charity is looking for new or slightly used luggage such as a suitcase, duffle bag or travel bag.

Luggage can be dropped off at the following sites:

• Spike’s Trophies, 2701 Grant Ave., on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon.

• Goddard School, 420 Dresher Road, Horsham, on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m.

• SEPTA Fox Chase Station, Rockwell Avenue parking lot, on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Thanksgiving concert is Nov. 25

The Lawncrest Ministerium will sponsor a community Thanksgiving concert and worship service on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Philadelphia Protestant Home social hall, 6500 Tabor Ave.

The Salvation Army Band will perform at 7 p.m., followed by a worship service at 7:30. Guests are encouraged to make a cash donation or bring canned or packaged foods to donate to local churches for distribution to the community. ••

Leaf collection underway

The Department of Streets is conducting a leaf collection and recycling program through Dec. 19. Bagged leaves can be dropped off at 23 locations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 5, 12 and 19. They must be in biodegradable paper bags. Bagged leaves set out at the curb will be collected as trash.

Mechanical leaf collection will also be offered on a designated weekly schedule in areas with a heavy concentration of leaves. To find out bagged leaf drop-off locations or for information on mechanical leaf collection, call 215–686–3422. ••

Tacony historical society to meet

The Historical Society of Tacony will be presenting guided trolley tours of the historic area of the community at the Winterfest to be held at Tacony Library on Saturday, Dec. 5. The tours will depart at noon and 1 p.m. from the library, 6742 Torresdale Ave.

Pre-registration is suggested, and the tours are not recommended for children under 7. Register by calling 215–338–8790 or by visiting the library. ••

Santa is coming to town

Santa Claus will visit the Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave. (at Hartel Avenue), on Monday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Children will be able to have their picture taken with Santa. The night will also include holiday crafts, story time, cookies and candy canes.
