Cop aims to raise money for fallen officers’ families

A Philadelphia police officer who operates a Christmas tree business in Bensalem will be raising money for fallen officers’ families and collecting meals and gifts for families in need throughout the holiday season. Santa Claus will be helping him do it.

Alfie’s Trees will open for business on Friday after Thanksgiving at the corner of Hulmeville and Byberry roads. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays, and 10 to 9 on Fridays and Saturdays.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, families are invited to meet Santa for photos. St. Nick will arrive on a fire engine at noon.

Throughout December, tree shoppers and visitors are asked to bring four canned goods to enter into a one-time drawing for a new Kindle Fire HD. The drawing will be held on Dec. 23. In addition, owners will be accepting donations of new toys and gift cards throughout the month that will be given to needy families in the community.

Visitors who wish to help the Philadelphia Police Survivors’ Fund should mention that they read about Alfie’s Trees in the Northeast Times. Five dollars from the sale of the tree will be donated to the fund, which is administered by Lodge 5 of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Those who take a tree home are eligible for a chance at winning a $100 pre-paid Visa card. To enter, customers must post a photo of their decorated tree on the Alfie’s Christmas Trees page on Facebook. The family with the most “likes” by Dec. 23 wins the card. ••
