Murder suspect linked to NE armed robbery

The same robbers suspected in the Thanksgiving morning slaying of a Port Richmond man have been linked to a similar hold-up in Mayfair one hour earlier.
A composite sketch and memo issued by the Philadelphia Police Department states that a gunman robbed a woman of her iPhone at 4 a.m. on Nov. 26 on the 4000 block of Unruh St. He fled in a white Mazda 6 sedan. One hour later, the same man in the same vehicle shot and killed Ryan Kelly, 21, as that victim was walking along the 3500 block of Almond St.
The police memo references just one offender. But in a Dec. 4 news release, police distributed surveillance photos of two men who were attempting to withdraw cash from an unspecified TD Bank branch using a stolen debit card. The men were suspects in multiple “recent robberies” as well as the Kelly shooting, which occurred within sight of his house.
According to published reports, the victim’s mother heard the shots and saw the white Mazda fleeing the scene. Police say that the car had been reported stolen during yet another robbery sometime during the preceding night.
Kelly died at Temple University Hospital less than an hour after the shooting. To report information about the case, call 215–686–3334. ••
