Two suspects fleeing an attempted drug bust allegedly rammed two police cars, crashed into a private motorist and almost ran over a police officer on Dec. 8.
Ultimately, officers captured the two men who were involved in the suspected drug deal in a parking lot at Cottman and Torresdale avenues, police said. It began at about 9 p.m. when narcotics investigators saw a suspected drug deal and approached two men in a Mercury Grand Marquis.
When the cops allegedly saw drugs in the car, the driver shifted the vehicle into gear, struck a private car and fled northbound on Torresdale. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that one officer had to dive out of the fleeing vehicle’s path.
The suspects, ages 51 and 30, reportedly drove through a nearby park and blew a tire, but continued to flee.
They allegedly struck two police cars at Bleigh Avenue and Edmund Street and continued to the 7900 block of Torresdale Ave., where they stopped and attempted to escape on foot. Police captured them after a short distance.
Police did not identify the suspects by name or disclose the formal charges. ••
