Police in the 2nd district responded to two unrelated shootings within about an hour on Monday afternoon, including one that is being investigated as a home invasion.
Shortly before 2 p.m., officers were called to the 900 block of Shelmire Ave., where they found a 23-year-old man inside a home with a gunshot wound of the upper right leg. Paramedics took the victim to Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus, where he was admitted for surgery, police said.
A witness told detectives that a masked man standing about six feet tall kicked in the door, made it past a resident’s two pit bulls and shot the victim in the leg before fleeing in an unknown direction. Police have not disclosed suspects or a motive in the shooting. The witness said that the gunman was black or Hispanic. There was no further description.
About an hour earlier, police were called to the 500 block of E. Hillcreek Drive in the Hillcreek housing project when someone reported multiple gunshots.
Nobody was at the scene, but investigators found numerous spent handgun and shotgun shells at the scene, as well as evidence that one shot struck an unoccupied apartment unit.
At about 2 p.m., investigators were notified that a gunshot victim, 21, had arrived at Albert Einstein Medical Center via private vehicle with wounds of the face, back and leg.
He was treated and released. He told police that he was a bystander when several people engaged in a shootout on Hillcreek Drive. There are no known suspects or motive. ••
