A record number of more than 140 homes and businesses were nominated for the third annual Mayfair Christmas Decoration Contest this year. Twelve judges, representing the 12 days of Christmas, toured the neighborhood from Dec. 15 to 20, grading each display on a scale of one to 12, with 12 being the ultimate decorations and one being the equivalent of a single window cling-on. Winners were announced on Dec. 21.
The competition was close, but three homes were declared winners of the residential category: 7930 Lister St., 7816 Lexington Ave. and 7411 Brous Ave.
The top 10 also included 3439 Chippendale St., 3112 Fanshawe St., 3257 Friendship St., 2922 Gilham St., 3054 Princeton Ave., 3501 Sheffield Ave. and 3513 Shelmire St.
In the inaugural business competition, the winners were Bellalisa Hair Studio, 3530 Cottman Ave.; Torresdale Flower Shop, 7332 Frankford Ave.; and Hair Razor, 3358 Longshore Ave.
Participation in the contest was free. Numerous local businesses donated prizes for the winning decorators, who each received a commemorative yard sign created by Aztec Signs. The Mayfair Business Association and Mayfair Civic Association co-sponsored the competition. ••
