Verizon last week made a $5,000 donation to Maternity BVM School, 9322 Old Bustleton Ave.

The presentation was made on Friday afternoon by Frank Buzydlowski, Verizon’s director of state government affairs and a 1968 BVM graduate who still lives in the parish, on Bingham Street.

State Rep. Ed Neilson initiated a game in which he had the students sitting on one side of the gym holler “Buz,” while Rep. Martina White encouraged the kids gathered on the other side to yell louder. Neilson declared a tie, and gave the kids a snow day on Saturday.

City Councilman Brian O’Neill told the youngsters that he believes BVM is “one of the greatest parishes in the United States.”

The Rev. Paul Quinter, the parish pastor, said the funds will help families pay tuition. He added that BVM has one of the lowest tuitions in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. ••
