Solomon cares about the NE
I’m writing to express my pleasant surprise from meeting a state representative candidate (and hopefully, soon to be state representative), Jared Solomon. As someone who has lived in the Northeast for decades and watched its slow decline, it was like a breath of fresh air when Jared popped up at my door several months ago.
After speaking with him about his concern for this neighborhood, he encouraged me to join his group, Take Back Your Neighborhood, and also participate in the Max Myers Committee. I had heard of the Take Back Your Neighborhood initiative from their great work performing local cleanups and (re)building a few playgrounds in the area, but had no idea that it was spearheaded by Jared.
As someone who helped run athletic programs at Max Myers Playground, it was great to hear that Jared grew up playing Little League baseball there and through the Take Back Your Neighborhood initiative helped refurbish the recreation center.
Over the past three decades, I have watched the neighborhood deteriorate as home ownership has become a thing of the past and neighbors change far too often, causing the sense of neighborhood and kinship that I once shared with those on my street to erode. It is wonderful to see someone like Jared Solomon recognize that the status quo in this neighborhood just isn’t cutting it and take matters into his own hands. Jared cares about the “Average Joe” on the street and is willing to listen to the problems that you may be facing. The sad thing is that in all my time in this neighborhood, I have not once had any politician, let alone a political candidate, show up to my door to introduce themselves and ask how I felt about my neighborhood. After meeting Jared, I know who I’ll be casting my vote for on Election Day. This man is truly concerned about our neighborhood and will be an asset to each and every one of us.

Wrong to house illegals here
I just read the article about the Naval site possibly being used to house illegal immigrant children.
I would never want to see any bad come to a child but there are so many of our own children born here in Philadelphia that have the same needs these children do, but don’t get the help they need.
It says that all their medical, educational and other needs will be taken care of. Also there is the possibility of employment. Wow! How many people, young and old, would love to be given these services? Something is wrong here.

Bernie, Hillary will fail
The rise of avowed socialist candidate Bernie Sanders and socialist flirt Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party raises an interesting question: Does anyone in that party read history books?
If the 20th century taught us humans anything, it’s that attempts to build Utopia on those ideas end in bloody failure. Nonetheless, in all honesty you could nickname this pair the Red Star and the Redder Star. They are well and truly people of yesteryear.
Bernie is right about one thing, though. While there may be a need for a revolution, he and his followers have completely misread the times. What is really needed now is a very distinct and sharp rightward turn in politics, a turn based on ideas that work: fiscal responsibility, individual initiative, free enterprise, cutting both the federal government and the Supreme Court down to size, and the restoration of the traditional values and institutions that alone are the guarantors of national greatness.
And let the term “political correctness” disappear from the lexicon!
So, Bernie and company, the upcoming turn in politics will most decidedly not be based upon a failed ideology left over from the Industrial Revolution.

Stop offensive attacks
Lately, even the funny pages have been more serious than some of our presidential candidates. Between the attacks, offensive remarks, you even wonder should he or she be running for president.
If such remarks are being said to get votes, they should think again. They need to speak about what they can do for the people, do for our country. Certainly, they need to stop the attacks.
