Man wounded outside grocery store

Surveillance photo

Philadelphia police released alarming video last Thursday of a brazen shooting in front of a grocery store on busy Frankford Avenue. Investigators hope that the graphic images will help them identify the gunman.

It happened at Frankford and Foulkrod Street at 6:19 a.m. on Feb. 2. The video shows a four-door gray or silver sedan traveling southbound on Frankford underneath the El before turning left onto Foulkrod and parking on the corner. The driver exited the car, pulled a gun from his pants, approached a man standing on the corner in front of the Sugar & Spice store and opened fire.

A nearby witness fled into the store as the target ran northbound and the shooter stalked him while firing more rounds. After the barrage, the gunman entered the store briefly before returning to his car and fleeing the area.

The victim, 24, later arrived at Aria Health’s Torresdale campus seeking treatment for unspecified injuries. He told police the circumstances of the shooting. A possible motive was not disclosed.

Police described the shooter as black, 40 to 50 years old with a mustache, blue hoodie, blue jeans and black shoes. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
