When Puddin’s Cake Corner opened on Saturday morning, longtime residents said it was the first new bakery in Tacony in about 40 years.
Among those on hand for the ribbon cutting were state Rep. Mike Driscoll and representatives of the Tacony Civic Association, Tacony Community Development Corporation and the Delaware River City Corp. Also, the Rev. Joseph Farrell, pastor at Our Lady of Consolation Parish, offered a prayer and blessed the building.
Puddin’s Cake Corner is located at 4814 Edmund St. (at Princeton Avenue). Long-range plans call for that stretch of Princeton Avenue to eventually connect to the Delaware River.
The bakery is owned by Terry and Becky Rogers, and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The menu includes cakes, cupcakes, pastries, cookies, coffee and espresso. Inside, there is a fireplace and furniture for customers to sit.
“We’re like Starbucks, but more family oriented,” Becky Rogers said.
Signarama, 6909 Frankford Ave., will soon install permanent signs.
Driscoll urged people to shop local, adding that the opening of Puddin’s Cake Corner is another boost to the neighborhood.
“Tacony is a rising sun,” he said.
