A 41-year-old man was crossing busy Bustleton Avenue in the dark, on his hands and knees, trying to retrieve a shoe when a car struck and killed him, Philadelphia police say.
The odd accident occurred at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 7 on Bustleton Avenue near Red Lion Road.
A Toyota Sienna minivan was traveling northbound when it struck the pedestrian, who was taken to Aria Health’s Torresdale campus and pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m. Police did not identify him publicly.
The driver of the minivan, who was not identified, remained at the scene for emergency responders to arrive. No criminal charges were filed. ••
