The Philadelphia Police Department announced two arrests last week in the fatal stabbing of a woman in Frankford last month. Although the department identified the victim as a transgender woman, it did not disclose what relevance the victim’s sexual identity may have had in the slaying.
Authorities have not revealed a suspected motive in the murder of Maya Young, 25.
Police arrested Tiffany Floyd on March 1 and Jose Pena one day later, charging each with murder and conspiracy in connection with the homicide, which occurred near Griscom and Harrison streets at about 11:50 p.m. on Feb. 20.
Officers were initially called to the 4900 block of Griscom in response to a report of a “stabbing on the highway.” They found Young around the corner, on the 4800 block of Penn St., suffering from stab wounds of the neck and chest. She was taken to Aria Health’s Frankford campus and pronounced dead at 12:21 a.m.
Police did not say how they identified Floyd, 24, and Pena, 19, as the alleged killers. Floyd resides on the 4300 block of Cloud St. and Pena on the 900 block of Pratt St. ••
