The holdup occurred at Family Dollar, 5807 Torresdale Ave., at about 8:15 a.m. when the robber entered the business, locked the front door behind him, drew a handgun and demanded money from a 35-year-old man employee.

The worker surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarette packs. The crook fled south on Torresdale Avenue then east on Van Kirk Street, police said.

He was described as black and stocky, with a medium complexion, black sunglasses trimmed in gold, a light-colored baseball cap with a black knit cap underneath, a gray hoodie, a plaid jacket (with a large tear in the back), light pants and black gloves.
