Woman pleads guilty to animal cruelty

A Castor Gardens woman has pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty in a case involving a dog whose skin was in extreme condition.

Siyeth Kol, of the 2000 block of Tyson Ave., pleaded guilty to one count of failure to provide veterinary care for her pit bull-type dog who was suffering from extreme skin conditions, resulting in crusting, bleeding wounds.

On March 15, Pennsylvania SPCA Humane Law Enforcement officers seized the dog, who was brought to the SPCA’s shelter hospital, where he is being treated until he is healthy enough to be adopted.

Kol has been sentenced to pay a $400 fine to the state, and 90 days prohibition of animal ownership, with the exception of one dog remaining in the home. During the probationary term, the SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement has full inspection rights of the property.

“The Pennsylvania SPCA is dedicated to protecting animals and improving their health and quality of life,” said Jerry Buckley, SPCA CEO. “In this case, the dog has suffered severely, and faces what will be a long road to recovery. We are thankful to our Humane Law Enforcement, Humane Litigation and shelter hospital teams who have all played a role in the rehabilitation of the animal in question.”

The Pennsylvania SPCA recently created The George Bengal Fund to continue the work of the organization’s director of Humane Law Enforcement, who is facing terminal cancer. It is Bengal’s last request that the work to end animal cruelty continues at the Pennsylvania SPCA.
