A Frankford man sexually assaulted his 13-year-old stepdaughter, then beat his wife into unconsciousness early on May 31, Philadelphia police said.
Malik Bailey, 39, fled the victims’ house on the 1900 block of Pratt St. and remained at-large for more than a day before police captured him near Front and McKean streets in South Philly at about 5:40 p.m. on June 1, police said.
The stepdaughter called 911 from a neighbor’s house at about 12:25 a.m. on May 31 and told police that Bailey woke her, pulled her from her bedroom, took her to the basement and sexually assaulted her. She then fled the house to seek help. After the 911 call, police gained access to a neighbor’s house, looked through a window and saw the girl’s mother lying unconscious on a bed on the second floor of her own home. She had a large head wound and was bleeding from the face, police said.
The woman was admitted to intensive care at Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition. The girl was treated at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
The following day, police spotted Bailey on the street and captured him after a short foot chase. He was charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, sexual assault, attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and related offenses. He is held in lieu of $5 million bail and is scheduled for a June 21 preliminary hearing. ••
