Ashwin Wilson, a graduate of George Washington High School who is majoring in biology, was one of only 15 freshmen at Widener University selected for the Presidential Service Corps/Bonner Leader Program. Select freshmen are chosen each year for the program based on their high school academic record, commitment to serving their communities and leadership potential. Students in the program volunteer 300 hours of service with a community partner in Chester each year, and commit to an annual international service trip for alternative spring break. In addition, students participate in training and enrichment activities that help them develop leadership skills. Each PSC/Bonner Leader receives an annual $5,000 scholarship in addition to any need-based financial aid or academic-based scholarships.

Alexa Garber was among more than 2,800 recent graduates of the University at Albany. She graduated with a degree in Political Science.

Vanessa Puodziunas graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science from the College of the Arts. Puodziunas was among nearly 4,700 students who received bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, associate and educational specialist degrees during Kent State’s commencement ceremony.

Julie White, a senior with a major in archaeology, was inducted into the Lycoming College chapter of Theta Alpha Kappa, the honor society for religion and theology students.
Theta Alpha Kappa encourages, recognizes and maintains excellence in religious and theological studies within baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degree programs. Members must have completed at least three semesters at Lycoming College and at least 12 credits in courses representing the study of religion; have attained a GPA of at least 3.5 in these courses and a 3.0 GPA in their total program; and been ranked in the upper 35 percentile of their class at the time of induction.

The following local students received diplomas: Taylor Cassedy (cum laude with a degree in English: early childhood education), Charles Dougherty (organizational behavior/applied psychology), Erin Keyes (fashion: merchandising), Shauna Mehaffey (cum laude with a degree in child: family studies) and Christian Reyes (psychology/sociology: criminology).

Tawana N. James earned a Master of Arts degree with a concentration in Leadership for Sustainable Communities from Alvernia University’s School of Graduate and Adult Education. Alvernia’s graduation ceremonies took place at Santander Arena.
