A 19-year-old from Oxford Circle invaded the home of a Rhawnhurst couple, fired a gunshot and robbed them on Sept. 7 moments before he robbed a woman at gunpoint two blocks away, authorities say.
Police captured Quamir Harper, of the 800 block of Marcella St., within minutes of the crimes as he was rummaging through a bag that he allegedly stole.
At 11:05 p.m., police were called to a home on the 2000 block of Oakmont St. A 53-year-old man and his wife said they heard a noise at their back door, went to investigate and encountered a man in his kitchen wearing a black hoodie and pointing a black handgun. When the husband began screaming, the gunman struck him in the head with the weapon. The husband grabbed a chair and tried to hit the intruder, who fired the gun twice. Neither shot struck the victims.
The robber grabbed a computer bag from a kitchen counter and ran out the back door.
As police arrived in the area, they spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description rummaging through a black bag. He tried to run from approaching officers, who chased him on foot and captured him on the 2100 block of Bleigh Ave.
The officers soon learned of a second 911 call that had been made at 11:15 a.m. A woman reported that she had been robbed by a man with a gun as she walked on the 7400 block of Large St., which is about two blocks from the Oakmont Street house. That victim identified the home invasion suspect as the man who robbed her.
Harper was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, robbery, weapons violations and related offenses. ••
