Officers David Smith and Raymond Hall were each named Officer of the Month in the 15th district for July. They were recognized during a meeting of the 15th Police District Advisory Council.
Smith led his platoon with eight arrests for part one crimes in July and five arrests for part two crimes. He also tallied 14 pedestrian stops, nine car stops, 11 citations issued and nine curfew violations issued. He responded to 184 police radio calls.
Hall arrested a man suspected of involvement in several armed robberies. On July 31, Hall stopped a car on the 4300 block of Leiper St. for a moving violation. When he approached the car, he saw the driver kick an object under his seat. The object was a .40-caliber handgun loaded with six live rounds, plus one in the chamber. The driver did not have a permit to carry a gun. Hall arrested him. The suspect was later identified as a culprit in several recent robberies targeting pizza delivery drivers. ••
