A husband and wife from Bustleton perished when fire engulfed their home just before midnight on Oct. 4.
Firefighters were called to the two-story single home on the 9800 block of Bridle Road and found heavy fire conditions on the first floor. The flames burned out of control for more than a half-hour as firefighters battled the blaze from inside and outside the house.
After discovering the husband and wife inside, rescuers administered CPR to both victims, but they each died at the scene. The fire department did not release the identities of the victims. A joint obituary published by philly.com identifed them as David Levine, 55, and Tetiana Levine, 58.
Neighbors told news reporters that the couple had a college-age daughter who was attending school in New York state. The family had moved to Bridle Road about a year ago, neighbors said.
The fire department has not released information about a suspected cause. About a dozen fire companies responded to the scene. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. ••
