A Mayfair man pointed a gun at a car full of Father Judge High School students during a traffic dispute last Thursday morning.
Police arrested Carlos Alberto Soto, 39, at his home on the 3300 block of Sheffield Ave. shortly after the 7:40 a.m. incident. The victims had provided investigators with the suspect’s license plate number.
The confrontation began as both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Rhawn Street approaching Roosevelt Boulevard. Soto was driving a silver Nissan minivan that changed lanes and nearly struck a car occupied by four high school students who were on the way to class.
The van filed in behind the teenagers’ car as they continued east toward Cresco Avenue. That’s where Soto allegedly pulled alongside the teens’ car, rolled down his window and told them they had a broken tail light. One of the boys replied, “You almost killed us,” police said. That’s when Soto allegedly pointed a gun at the teens’ car.
Soto then drove away, but the youths noted his plate number and called police from school. Police did not disclose if they recovered the weapon used in the incident.
Soto had a permit to carry the gun and had no prior arrests on his record. He was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and related offenses. ••
